If you love the cold, then check out some of these inns that are only in operation December to April every year because they melt away each spring:

Open Dec. 10 through April 18, the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden is in a small Swedish Village in the Arctic Circle. Frozen blocks of snow and ice from the Torne River are transformed each winter into the sub-zero sanctuary. For more details, access IceHotel.com on the Web.

Also open for business during the same dates as above, Hotel Kakslauttanen’s Igloo Village in Kakslauttanen, Finland differs from other ice hotels in that is contains multiple units built of snow or glass, according to its website, Kakslauttanen.fi/igloo_village.php.

The Ice Lodge in Bjorli, Norway operates Jan. 1-April 30 and its snow hotel closes April 15.

“Set in the middle of Dovre-Sunndalsfjella National Park, the legendary Ice Lodge at Bjorli is an animal lover’s dream,” says writer Brandon Miller. (http://www.outtraveler.com/printer_friendly.asp?did=1257).

The website is Ice-Lodge.com.

The Hotel De Glace at Sainte-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier, Canada is in business Jan. 4-March 29 and is North America’s only ice hotel. It sits 30 minutes ouside of gay-friendly Quebec City and more details may be obtained by going to IceHotel-Canada.com.

Speaking of hotels, if you get the opportunity to go to southwestern Ireland, check out the Templenoe House (353-25-82978, templenoehouse.com).

“The main house there is the bed and breakfast and what a luxurious house it is,” says Sandra Bignell of Winnipeg, MB, Canada. “Without a doubt, for a relaxing holiday in exquisite, enchanting countryside, I would recommend Templenoe House to anyone looking for either a cottage or a B & B.”

Located in Amsterdam, an old farm house and barn was converted into a Bed & Breakfast known as the DeDeiken Guest House.

“See Jayne Play was founded by two women, Karen and Patti, who enjoy traveling in Europe and who wanted to share their experiences with other women,” said Terri Taylor of Westminster, CA. “If it weren’t for Patti and Karen I would have never known about the DeDeiken guest house.”
